Our Stations

In this station we first teach the children about what sort of situation counts as an emergency via a series of scenarios and how to call an ambulance if one occurs. Emphasise the number 999 and provide examples of when to call it. This station includes an ‘hospital tent’ with a tunnel which the children visit after ‘calling’ the ambulance.

This station is about explaining what happens when you visit the doctor and familiarising kids with doctor’s equipment. We talk through different things that the doctor might do such as checking your heart/lungs, and what equipment they use for it. We will ask the kids to pretend their teddies are patients and get them to use the plastic doctor’s equipment such as a BP cuff, stethoscope and syringe. We also have a pulse oximeter for the kids to use on themselves.

In this station we teach the students the proper technique to wash hands using hand gel, and when they should wash hands (e.g. coming back inside from the playground, after using the bathroom, before eating, etc). This includes an explanation of what germs are and why we want to avoid them. The station starts with children running on the spot to show what happens to your heart when you run (and then link to washing hands when going back to the classroom).

First we ask the children if they know what the 5 senses are (Touch, Taste, Hearing, Smell, Sight) and why each of our senses are important (e.g. smell to help them identify food). We explain that sometimes, people are born without some senses (this is what deafness/blindness is). We have braille alphabet pieces to show kids how blind people can still communicate without the sense of sight, then we ask to the kids to feel the pieces and spell their names!

This is a teddy bear which can be unzipped to reveal some plush toy organs inside. We also have some plastic medical instruments. The purpose of this station is to explain what doctors do in surgery to make it seem less scary, by performing a surgery on our ‘surgery bear’! The children get to open up the bear, take out organs, “fix them” and put them back in – using the surgical instruments.
